Bringing spring smiles to disadvantaged children

Even though not being gathered with their families during the Tet holiday, orphans and disabled children can still celebrate a Tet filled with love and care from everyone. To give strength for children with difficult circumstances to rise in life and have a warm and joyful Tet, localities, organizations and units in the province have implemented many meaningful and practical programs.

Spring journey with difficult children

It has become a custom that every year, when spring approaches, provincial Children’s Fund Council connects with donors to continue the journey of bringing the spring of love to children with difficult circumstances in order to encourage and create joy for children to overcome difficulties and celebrate Tet with much joy, warmth and love.

Representative of provincial Children’s Fund Council and donors presents gifts to children with difficult circumstances in Thuan An city

This year, the fund's first journey came to Thuan An city’s Education Center for Children with Disabilities. Being at the center, we felt the funny and bustling atmosphere here. The center's campus was decorated with spring scenery with pots of fresh apricot and peach blossoms. From early morning, children in the center were eager to "dress" themselves in their most beautiful clothes to welcome the spring journey.

Nguyen Thi Diem Hang, Director of Thuan An city’s Center for Education of Children with Disabilities said: "Currently, the center has 294 students who are deaf, retarded, autistic, have difficult circumstances... Every time, Tet and spring approach, the center tries to organize many meaningful activities so that children can feel the joy of Tet and have a full Tet".

While holding a gift in her hands, Cao Hoang Tra My happily shared: "This is my 11th school year at the center. For me, Tet is always joyful and happier when my aunts and uncles come to visit, give gifts and encourage us. This year, I am very happy to be able to practice with my friends and perform art items to entertain everyone".

Ton Dong A Joint Stock Company is one of units actively participating in child support activities. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Quynh, member of the company’s Board of Directors shared: "Ton Dong A Joint Stock Company has accompanied provincial Children’s Fund over the past 18 years in activities of caring for and supporting children with difficult circumstances with a total budget of more than VND 4 billion. We hope that this is the spiritual encouragement to help them have more joy in life and give them more energy so they can move forward and reach their dreams".

During each spring journey, children were immersed in the spring atmosphere with joyful entertainment and magic performances. In each journey, looking at the sparkling eyes of the children eagerly waiting for gifts from donors, we were also happy. Spring filled with love has brought children a feeling of peace, warmth and belief in a better life and future.

Listening to children

In the bustling atmosphere of activities celebrating the Party - celebrating the Year of the Dragon 2024, provincial People's Council has just coordinated with Thu Dau Mot city’s People's Council and provincial Youth Union to organize a  program on "People's Council delegates with spring for disadvantaged children" to join hands and contribute to all-level authorities and sectors to care for children with difficult circumstances while listening to children presenting their thoughts, aspirations and suggestions, make suggestions for all-level authorities and sectors to get more information from children’s perspective to serve management on socio-economic development associated with ensuring the implementation of children's rights. The contents and issues raised by children in the program will be practical documents for provincial People's Council delegates to absorb and transfer into the activities of elected bodies and representatives.

At the program, the children boldly expressed their opinions and aspirations. Witnessing many young people who had to struggle to make a living early and could not afford to go to school because of their family's circumstances, Tran Le Hung Thinh, a pupil at Phu An Secondary School in Ben Cat town hopes that all-level authorities, sectors and mass organizations will organize many regular, long-term support programs for pupils with difficult circumstances, joining hands to help them go to school.

As for Lam Thi Thuy Duyen, a student at Minh Hoa High School in Dau Tieng district, she thinks that nowadays accessing information on the internet and apps is very easy. However, children do not have enough knowledge, experience and prevention methods, so they can easily access bad, toxic information sites that are harmful to their psychology. I hope that there will be good measures or more extracurricular programs and short learning sessions to help pupils understand and prevent bad risks in cyberspace.

At the program, Nguyen Van Loc, Member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of provincial People's Council said: "Through the program, provincial People's Council wants to join hands with all-level authorities and sectors in taking care of children, especially children with difficult circumstances. I hope you will make more efforts in your learning and become useful citizens for the society. Provincial People's Council will acknowledge children’s thoughts and aspirations, thereby taking better care of them in the future."

On the afternoon of January 29, provincial Sponsoring Association for the Disabled,  Orphans and Poor Patients coordinated with provincial Association of Women Entrepreneurs to organize a program to give Tet gifts for disadvantaged people. At the event, provincial Sponsoring Association for the Disabled,  Orphans and Poor Patients and provincial Association of Women Entrepreneurs offered 400 Tet gifts to orphans, disabled children and people with disabilities in the province. Each gift included VND 1 million in cash and a gift worth VND 200,000. In addition, the association also gave 30 gifts worth VND 300,000 each for Agent Orange/dioxin victims; offered 45 overlock machines, created jobs for poor, near-poor people and those with disabilities with a total value of VND 270 million.
