Since early this year, rabies cases have increased dramatically across the country and 22 deaths have been recorded. Through epidemiological characteristics, some cases of rabies have a short incubation period, from 10 to 15 days. There is currently no record of rabies in Binh Duong, but the local health sector is not subjective about the disease.
In current reality, people's awareness of the danger of rabies as well as measures against the disease is still limited. The management of dogs and cats in some localities is still lax. The rate of dogs and cats being vaccinated against rabies is still low. To prevent rabies, provincial Department of Health has requested agencies, units and medical examination and treatment facilities to proactively coordinate and closely monitor cases being bitten by suspected dogs and cats with rabies to guide vaccination and deal with the outbreak of the disease opportunely.
Especially, units need to increase people's access to rabies vaccine and anti-rabies serum, especially in high-risk areas. Each district, town, and city arranges at least one rabies vaccination site. For large places with difficult terrain, localities should consider arranging additional vaccination sites. In addition, localities and sectors join hands in promoting rabies propaganda; organizing training courses on skills to give advice and handle cases bitten by animals.
