To unlock potentials

Talking to us, Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that Binh Duong is determined to become a satellite center where logistics services are concentrated to serve production and export activities in the regions of industrial clusters, at the same time, turn logistics services into one of the province's key economic sectors, contributing to shifting the proportion of services in the economic structure in the right direction by 2025. Opening a new method of transporting goods by rail can help logistics service businesses easily access major industrial, commodity and auxiliary material production centers in the region and the world.

In fact, Binh Duong currently has foreign trade relations with more than 102 countries and territories. The Chinese market and other markets of countries on the Asia-Europe railway transport route like Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and others play quite an important role. However, up to now most imported and exported goods to the market are mainly done by sea through two main ports of Cai Mep and Cat Lai.

Song Than international terminal in Di An city of the province is the largest freight station in the South with many loading and unloading roads and cargo yards and the North - South railway being a great traffic advantage of the province. The opening of Song Than international intermodal terminal serving the transportation of import and export goods has an important significance in the economic development of Binh Duong province.

Businesses need specific instructions

According to Tran Van Uc, Head of Logistics Department of Panasonic Electric Works Vietnam Co. Ltd., diversifying the means of transporting goods is a factor that businesses really need as around the world, countries are focusing on developing railways to serve the economy with the advantages of fast and low cost transportation with easy connection to transport goods internationally.

“Improving the capacity to transport import and export goods by rail through Song Than station helps businesses reduce transportation costs, shorten delivery time, ensure goods to be safe, limit damage and timely shipping schedule than other shipping methods. Another important benefit is that export goods transported by rail will go straight across the borders without being congested at the border gates like transportation made by roads in the past," Tran Van Uc emphasized with expectation that businesses would receive specific guidance and support for the new modes of transportation. Nguyen Quang Sang, Secretary of the Binh Duong provincial Logistics Association, said that transporting import and export goods by rail through Song Than station with great capacity will promote goods production of businesses and improve the value of goods on local import and export quota. Logistics businesses require Song Than station to gather as much goods as possible not only from Binh Duong but also from the Southern region.

Nguyen Tran Hieu, Director of Binh Duong provincial Customs Department, said that in the context of general difficulties, directing businesses to expand transportation methods by rail will help reduce transportation costs and shorten time of freight forwarding. Binh Duong Customs Department will establish a centralized gathering, inspection and supervision location for export and import goods. The provincial Customs Department will inform businesses in the area of detailed and specific procedures.

Binh Duong is one of the most dynamically developing localities in the southern region and the whole country with the formation and development of 33 industrial parks and 12 industrial clusters focused on attracting businesses, especially especially FDI enterprises. Binh Duong has recently welcomed many businesses to invest, produce and do business aimed at exporting to the American, European and Asian markets. The total import-export turnover of businesses in the province has now risen to 3rd in the country. Of which, import-export turnover from the Chinese market alone accounted for about 40%, mainly by sea and a small portion by road.
