On March 4, the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) announced that from 2025, candidates who have not passed the high-school graduation exam in 2024 and previous years will be given with a graduation exam under the program they have studied.
Specifically, from 2025, students who have not passed the high-school graduation exam in 2024 and previous years will be given a graduation exam under the content of the general education program that they have studied in the spirit of fully ensuring their rights and benefits students. The MoET affirmed that this content will be included in the transition clause of the circular promulgating regulations on high school graduation exams from 2025.
Previously, in November 2023, the MoET announced a plan to organize the high school graduation exam from 2025. This is the first year that students following the new 2018 General Education Program will graduate. Candidates will take the high school graduation exam with 2 compulsory subjects: math, literature and 2 subjects from their choice: foreign language, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, technology. Particularly, literature is tested in the form of essay and the remaining subjects are tested in the form of multiple choice.
The exam is still held nationwide in the same format, with the same exam session and time under the regulations of the MoET. The paper-based exam method will be maintained stably in the period of 2025-2030. After 2030, the MoET will gradually pilot computer-based testing for multiple-choice subjects in eligible localities, with paper and computer-based testing that will be able to be combined.
