Many kinds of vegetables under the local safe vegetable-growing model reach high yield

Provincial Plant Protection Department has just held a conference to review the project on “Building up Binh Duong’s safe vegetable-growing area between 2010 and 2012”.

Under the project, two safe vegetable-growing models of 60 hectares were set up in Ben Cat district’s Tan Dinh commune and Tan Uyen district’s Uyen Hung township with two production groups and 47 participating households. Main plants of the two models were small spring onion, cucumber, bitter melon, peanut, spinach, okras, loopah…Members of the two production groups well realized the regulations in according with the new production process in terms of seedling, fertilizer, pesticide…

The yield of various vegetables in the project was higher than those grown under the traditional way. For example, small spring onion reached 13 tons per hectare; cucumber, 22 tons per hectare; bitter melon, 20 tons per hectare. Their prices at supermarkets were 20%-30% higher than those sold in the market.

After two years of implementing the project, more than 1,070 tons of safe vegetables were supplied to the market. The income of participating households was also 20%-30% higher than that of other farmer households.
