Party Central Office marks 80th anniversary

The Central Office of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which plays an important role in the Party’s leadership, has celebrated its 80th birthday in Hanoi.

A ceremony took place on October 16 in the presence of General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former general secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu, former Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An, former State President Tran Duc Luong, and Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh.

The history of the Central Office has been closely connected to that of the Communist Party of Vietnam, said Ngo Van Du, current Head of the Central Office. Its main functions still include advice and assistance to senior officials in the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Central Committee of the Party.

Mr Du said the agency now comprises a strong array of experts in various fields to help with appraising projects, reporting socio-economic issues, constructing laws, and advising the Politburo on policies and measures to curb the impact of the global economic downturn and shift the country’s economic model.

In addition, he said, the Central Office has improved the quality of its logistical and financial work for the activities of the Party’s central leadership organs, leaders, and specialized commissions.

In his speech, General Secretary Manh praised the Central Office and its local counterparts for their close coordination with related agencies to accurately, quickly and comprehensively reflect the country’s situation. It has also proposed timely measures to deal with pressing issues, which has ensured the Party’s leadership in politics, economy, society, defence, security and external affairs.

Mr Manh also pointed out that the Central Office has played an active supervisory role to make sure that the Party’s resolutions are fully and effectively implemented, thus creating impetus for the country’s industrialization, modernization and international integration.

At the ceremony, the Party Chief asked the Central Office to prepare thoroughly for the coming 11th National Party Congress.

He urged the agency to improve its professional work, ensuring each staff member of the Office fully grasps late President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings on the crucial importance of office work and follows his moral standards.

Mr Manh asked the Office to reform its working styles and apply scientific methods to raise the quality of its work and create a highly cultural environment
