The demand for goods and agricultural products during the Lunar New Year of 2024, the Year of the Rat, is expected to increase significantly. However, according to assessments from relevant authorities, businesses in the province have ensured a stable supply of agricultural products and food for the market with minimal price fluctuations during this year's festive season.

Rich commodities at stable prices
Information about the supply capacity of agricultural products during the Lunar New Year of 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that currently, for products such as vegetables, fruits, and fresh produce, businesses, cooperatives, and farmers in the area are actively increasing production to timely supply for the market. Mr. Pham Van Bong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, affirmed that he will ensure the supply of agricultural products and food during the Tet holiday for residents in the area, as well as for neighboring provinces and cities with high consumption levels, at stable prices. Binh Duong has prepared a stock of approximately 300 billion VND worth of goods, ensuring supply for the residents, including over 2,000 tons of processed products and over 3,000 tons of fresh products.
In 2023, disease prevention measures for livestock and poultry are well controlled, and the livestock industry in the province is developing steadily. Mr. Tran Phu Cuong, Director of the Livestock, Veterinary and Aquatic Products Department, stated that Binh Duong province has a total of over 13 million pigs, with a daily supply capacity of approximately 7,000 - 8,000 pigs, of which 1,500 are supplied to the local market and the rest to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces. Every day, Binh Duong can supply approximately 70,000 chickens for meat, of which 35,000 are supplied to the domestic province, while the remaining are supplied to other provinces and cities. Therefore, this Lunar New Year, with the current total number of livestock, the supply for the domestic residents is abundant, and it can also provide for neighboring provinces and cities.
Present at the Binh Duong Co.opmart supermarket, we have observed an abundant and diverse display of consumer goods. Additionally, most product categories have implemented promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand. Mr. Duong Bao Khuong, Deputy Director of Co.opmart Supermarket in Binh Duong, stated that in order to effectively carry out the task of stabilizing market prices, the majority of the budget for price stabilization during this Tet holiday season is prioritized for specific product categories at Co.opmart Binh Duong, such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry, eggs, processed food, fruits and vegetables, and seafood. To meet the demand for shopping without interruption, the supermarket system has stockpiled goods at a level 10-30% higher than the same period. Additionally, supermarkets have implemented promotional programs offering discounts of up to 50% on hundreds of products to stimulate consumer spending.
Food safety ensured
According to market forecasts, the demand for goods during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse 2024 in the province is expected to increase significantly. This reality requires proactive supply and distribution activities to regulate the prices of essential commodities before, during, and after the Lunar New Year, contributing to market stability and ensuring the consumption needs of the people.
According to that, in 2024, the entire province has 17 businesses, supermarkets, shopping centers, and convenience stores registered to participate in the market stabilization program with a total product value of nearly 12,000 billion VND (excluding petroleum and medicine). The stabilized goods are always priced 5-10% lower than the market price. For the essential reserve goods at traditional markets in districts, towns, and cities serving the shopping needs of the people before, during, and after the 2024 Lunar New Year of the Horse, the value exceeds 236 billion VND. The market stabilization program will include 5 main groups of goods: Grains; Fresh food; Processed food; Technological food; Petroleum products. In addition, there will be 8-10 mobile sales campaigns during the Tet holiday to support residents and workers in remote areas and industrial clusters.
In addition, to ensure the supply of goods for the Lunar New Year holiday, the livestock industry in the province has proactively coordinated with major suppliers in the area to develop a plan to stabilize prices in the local market. For neighboring markets, the province still has abundant supply of pork and chicken, with the ability to connect and provide.
Amidst the increasing consumer demand, alongside the increase in quantity of goods, ensuring the safety of food during the peak Tet period is a goal that many people are concerned about. Therefore, supermarkets and businesses participating in the program to stabilize the market for essential goods have proactively carried out this task effectively. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and other produce items are imported into the supermarket system and produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, achieving a 99% compliance rate. The supermarket system is actively investing in clean agriculture and collaborating with suppliers to produce clean and organic products. Co.opmart Supermarket system always pays special attention to quality control of goods before they reach consumers' hands, said Mr. Duong Bao Khuong.
The demand for purchasing food and groceries for the Lunar New Year is increasing among the population, while the issues of smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and low-quality products are showing signs of complex developments. Therefore, the Provincial Market Management Department has announced that it will enhance coordination with relevant units to regularly inspect and control the market, ensuring the quality of goods goes hand in hand with price stability, in order to provide a sense of confidence for consumers to purchase Tet-related commodities.
