Tet gift baskets carefully prepared and tied to the back of workers' saddles have appeared more and more on local roads after overtime. Money to support workers having difficult circumstances during Tet has also been transferred to each company and lodging house by trade unions at all levels; fun and entertainment activities at companies at the end of the year have also been organized, promising a spring full of Tet flavors for all union members and employees.
Grassroots trade unions are simultaneously giving funds for Tet gifts to union members and workers.
Gift baskets full of love
Tet gift baskets for union members and workers have not only material significance but also great spiritual encouragement; demonstrate concern and care for employees from companies as well as grassroots trade unions. Nguyen Thu Trang, worker at Rochdale Spears Company (Thuan An City), shared: “Even though the gifts only range from a few hundred thousand to 1 million VND, the common feeling of employees is to always look forward, especially for Tet gifts. If the worker’s family doesn't use it, they give it to their grandparents during Tet, which is very meaningful. Every year my child takes the gifts from mom and dad and compare which part is bigger. If Tet gifts haven’t arrived yet and she would wait for it all the time."
Not to let employees wait too long, in recent days, grassroots trade unions at companies have simultaneously implemented salary and bonus regimes and gave Tet gifts. Additionally, businesses organize year-end parties to thank their employees for hard working. Although last year faced many difficulties in production and business, businesses' salaries and year-end bonuses for employees are not too low compared to 2023. According to statistics, the average Tet bonus at 1,267 FDI companies in the province reached VND7.1 million/person. Tet gifts for employees at some businesses are also quite rich. For example, Thye Ming Company (Ben Cat Town) gave Tet gifts of up to 1.5 million VND/person, including 20 items for a family to consume during Tet holidays, including: beers, biscuits, candy, jam, cooking oil, fish sauce, soy sauce, sausage...
Nguyen Phong Vinh, a worker at Friesland Campina Vietnam Company (Thuan An City), shares his joy at Tet gifts: “My company has given Tet gifts to union members and workers. Like every year, a gift worth 500,000 VND, full of Tet products for everyone. I don't have a family yet, so every year I give this special gift to my parents."
To make Tet holiday more meaningful for workers, many grassroots trade unions simultaneously organized playgrounds for union members and workers with sports activities and lucky draws for valuable items, such as: motorcycles, TVs, refrigerators, rice cookers, discount sales markets, zero-Dong markets.. Recently, Techtronic Industries Vietnam Manufacturing Company (TTI) (Tan Uyen City) organized a Tet festival for thousands of employees. With the theme "Overcoming challenges, welcoming success", the event took place with many activities, such as football competitions, cuisine, Tet corner decoration, music show, and giving gifts to employees.
Promptly share difficulties
In order to promptly share difficulties with workers, trade unions at all levels in the province quickly gave financial support from the provincial budget and trade union funds to have Tet gifts for disadvantaged union members and workers. Recently, when she and 100 employees at Thong Dung Shoes Company (Thuan An City) received Tet gifts from by provincial budget, Pham Thi Huong, born in Thanh Hoa province, could not hide her joy. Huong has worked at her company for 12 years now, but in the past 5 years she has had a quite severe kidney disease that requires regular dialysis. Every month, excluding insurance, she has to pay hospital fees of 4.5 million VND, while her monthly income is not much higher than the hospital fees. Family life depends on her husband's salary as a delivery driver. “Because I'm sick, I miss 4 to 5 days of work every month. However, the company still support me, even though there was a lack of orders throughout last year, they did not reduce labor. Grassroots trade unions at all levels also regularly give gifts and money on holidays," Huong said.
For cases of illness and difficulty, Provincial Labor Confederation promptly provided support on this Tet holiday based on the Provincial Support Fund for workers having particularly difficult circumstances to take care of workers, equivalent to 10 million VND/person. Recently, when leaders of Provincial Labor Confederation came to give support at her lodging room in An Phu ward of Thuan An city, Nguyen Ngoc Hanh, a worker of ASuzac Company (Thuan An city), shed tears: “Five months ago I discovered I had thyroid cancer. After surgery, it continued to metastasize to my chest area and am trying to treat it, spending a lot of money. Receiving support from trade unions at all levels, my family is very happy at this time because we are facing economic difficulties."
Nguyen Hoang Bao Tran, Vice Chairwoman of Provincial Labor Confederation, said: “Up to now, all levels of trade unions in the area have plans to do Tet-caring activities for workers both physically and mentally. More than 800,000 union members and workers in the area will all receive Tet gifts, with about 500,000 VND/gift in addition to salary and Tet bonus. Programs to present train, bus, and plane tickets or zero-Dong markets, "Trade Union Tet Market" have been carried out as every year. This year, the lives of workers in general are very difficult, and it is difficult to have a surplus like in previous years. Therefore, trade unions at all levels in the province are making efforts to mobilize, call on resources with the hope that workers will have a more fulfilling and warmer Tet."
