At MM Mega Maket, Go!, Big C, Co.opmart, Lotte Mart supermarkets, these days are filled with goods to serve people’s demand for shopping. Many stalls are decorated with a bold traditional Tet atmosphere. In general, confectionary products and consumer goods for Tet this year are put on the shelves by supermarkets earlier than usual. This year's product categories are also very diverse. Grasping consumer trends, goods from supermarkets and shopping centers this year are mainly of Vietnamese origin because of reasonable prices, designs and quality guaranteed.
Goods at supermarkets are ready to meet people's Tet shopping needs
At Aeon Binh Duong Canary, the display areas for Tet goods have been expanded and arranged eye-catchingly by the supermarket. Vo Van Lot, Director of Aeon Binh Duong Canary said that after completing a plan to stockpile goods to stabilize the market and working with suppliers to plan production, with the amount of goods in reserve increasing from 15%-25% compared to last year's Tet along with price incentives. Since the beginning of December 2023, the supermarket has put product groups forTet such as beer and soft drinks on shelves, decorated and arranged display areas to create convenience for customers to choose them. According to Vo Van Lot, not only stockpiling goods, this year, this unit has also implemented many Tet shopping programs with many groups from fresh food to dry food, processed food to household appliances, fashion items... to maximally meet customer needs during the 2024 New Year shopping season.
At the Co.opmart Binh Duong supermarket system, this year, there are many new seasonal products and brands such as agricultural products and smoked meats from new businesses. In addition, there are many new food and seafood products with outstanding and specialized quality for Tet such as spicy and sour seafood hot pot, grilled salmon combos, spring rolls, squid, meat-stuffed snails, salt-cured chicken, black chicken porridge, salmon porridge...and many other traditional specialties.
In addition to shopping for essential consumer goods for the family, gift baskets are also one of the product groups that supermarkets always pay attention to supplying to the market during Tet. Gift baskets worth from VND 300,000 to VND 2million per bag are pre-packaged with Vietnamese branded products such as Golden Dragon jam, Bibica, Kinh Do, dried fruit, Western sausage, cashew nuts, Binh Phuoc chestnuts, Trung Nguyen coffee... Some supermarkets also pack specialities from the central region such as sweet squid, raisin jam, sesame-marinated herring and anchovy sauce as Tet gifts for friends and relatives.
Promotion for stimulating consumer demand
Manufacturers compete by their brands and product quality while retail businesses continuously promote price subsidies for consumers and create favorable conditions for people to shop early for Tet. In addition, in Binh Duong, there is also a program "Promotion Month with National Concentration" with the participation of a large number of businesses in all fields and industries.
Typically, Co.opmart has coordinated with more than 1,000 business partners, providing opportunities for customers to shop for essential consumer goods with maximum savings when preparing to enter the 2024 Lunar New Year shopping peak. Some product groups with prices subsidized include milk, cakes, candies, spices... with discounts of up to 35%; home cleaning and laundry combo at great prices, up to 50% off or “buy 1 get 1”; household appliances applying a discount policy of 50%-40%-30%... At Aeon Mall Binh Duong Canary, there is also a discount policy of 5%-7% from the program "special discount - welcome Tet", lasting from now until February 9, 2024 for all customers when purchasing goods with invoices from VND1 million to over VND 20 million.
According to the general assessment from retailers, due to economic difficulties, this year, people's consumption trends have changed a lot, so Tet products are released to the market earlier and focus on the popular segment with promotional programs. Nguyen Thi Hong Khanh, Director of Cho Dinh Co.opmart supermarket said that the structure of Tet goods this year is selected by the supermarket, with appropriate segments in the most practical and economical way for consumers. Instead of just offering discounts for the days near Tet as usual, Saigon Co.op's Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, and Co.opSmile systems simultaneously apply early discounts for Tet goods to help consumers save money and not feel pressured to shop at the end of the year. Similarly, other retail businesses such as Lotte Mart, Winmart, Bach Hoa Xanh... all have a plenty of Tet shopping fee savings programs.
According to many customers, during shopping and promotional events, retail businesses have made clear changes in product quality, design and price, which are also relatively suitable for different market segments. Le Thi Le Thanh in Phu My ward’s quarter 3 in Thu Dau Mot city said that there are many products with promotional programs at supermarkets. Currently, the selling price is designed to suit the consumption needs of the majority of customers, which is considered as a driving force to increase purchasing power. Therefore, according to Mrs. Thanh, reducing selling prices or offering additional bonuses or increasing discounts is also a way to stimulate consumption, thereby boosting consumption of goods during the biggest shopping season of the year.
