Fourth NA session closes in Hanoi

(The National Assembly (NA) has completed its work after a month-long sitting in Hanoi, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung announced on November 23.

said in a spirit of solidarity and democracy and with a high sense of responsibility, deputies actively participated in and debated in all designated issues, which drew the attention of the entire nation.

Most of the key discussions were broadcast live, showcasing the transparency of State agencies’ and officials’ operations, he said.

NA deputies underlined the efforts by the government, ministries, agencies, and the political system as a whole to further socio-economic development and their achievements in spite of the difficult economic conditions.

They also pointed to the shortcomings and approved the socio-economic development and State budget plans for 2013.

The NA targeted continuing the stabilisation of the macroeconomy, inflation containment, and growth rate increases.

The legislature also planned to accelerate the implementation of strategic breakthroughs in restructuring the economy, shifting the growth models, securing social welfare, improving the effectiveness of international integration, ensuring national defence and security, and maintaining socio-political stability.

Lawmakers asked the Government, the Supreme People’s Court, and the Supreme People’s Procuracy to take synchronous measures to effectively combat crime in the interests of national security and social order.

The NA also passed nine bills including the revised Publication Law, the revised Law on Lawyers, the amended Law on Tax Management, the Law on National Reserve, the Electricity Law, the revised Law on Cooperatives, the Law on Capital, the amended Anti-Corruption Law, and the amended Law on Personal Incomes Tax, and a Resolution on Confidence Vote.

The legislative body highlighted relevant agencies’ efforts in preparing a draft of the amended Constitution and submitting it to the NA’s fourth session.

It also recognised the government’s efforts in implementing NA and Government resolutions on economic management.

Lawmakers urged the Prime Minister and other Cabinet members to take drastic action to fulfill their commitments during the question time and report the results to the NA in the next session.
