State President Truong Tan Sang has asked the People’s Police Force to make greater contributions to maintaining social order and security.

Addressing a ceremony to mark the force’s 50th anniversary, Mr Sang underlined policing efforts and achievements over the past five decades, saying that the Party and State recognise its glorious victories and feat of arms in the nation’s revolutionary cause.

He stressed that globalisation and international integration not only open up opportunities for national construction and defence but also pose new challenges for Vietnam.

Hostile forces are attempting acts of sabotage and pursuing their “peaceful evolution” strategy in an effort to cause political instability in Vietnam, he said.

In addition, crime rates are still increasing and social issues, especially traffic safety, public order, and fire and explosion prevention, remain complicated, he stressed.

Therefore, President Sang said, the People’s Police Force should uphold its key role in combating and preventing crimes, ensuring national security and social safety, protecting the country’s important political and diplomatic events, and maintaining favourable conditions for socio-economic development, while improving people’s living conditions.

He expressed his belief that the police will be able to fulfill its task, contributing a great deal to the nation’s industrialisation and modenrnisation process.

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Public Security, said the force has worked tirelessly with the entire Party, people and the army to protect revolutionary power and people’s lives; combat crimes and secure social order and safety.

Hundreds of police officers have laid down their lives and thousands of others have been exposed to HIV/AIDS in the fight against crimes, he said.

Minister Quang pointed out the force’s core tasks in the process of industrialisation and modernisation, as well as international integration and reaffirmed its key role in maintaining political security and social safety.

On the occasion, President Sang granted the Ho Chi Minh Order to the General Department of Crime Prevention and Suppression and the Military Exploit Order to the Criminal Verdict Execution, the Judicial Assistance Police General Department and the High Command of Mobile Police.
