Ho Chi Minh Trail - road openers

South Central Highlands, Southeastern are located the end of Truong Son Chain surrounded by immense forests and mountains. In the anti-French resistance war, the regions did not have revolutionary bases and the chain blocked routes leading to the South and North regions. Therefore, an instruction of opening a route via the Truong Son chain was agreed by president Ho Chi Minh, the Ministry of National Defense and the Central United Committee.   Vietnamese soldiers march on Ho Chi Minh Trail.Linking with South Central Highlands and Southeastern In accordance to the instruction, Brigade B90 was in the Northern region established to open routes via the South Central Highlands whilst the Southern party committee and the Eastern party committee in the South assigned 2 groups to seek out Brigade B90 in a bid to open to traffic a South-North route. More than 4 months of crossing Truong Son chain, Brigade B90 arrived in Dac Lak province in Oct. 1959 and received welcome from the provincial party committee. The brigade cooperated with the province's brigade to merge into Brigade B4.The Brigade B4 was divided into many teams, of which team 1,2 and 3 opened 3 key routes and built revolutionary bases in the South Central Highlands. At Vam DakR'tih, Brigade B4's team 1 met Brigade C200's reconnoiter team under the Southern party committee. Meanwhile, Brigade B4's team 2 met Brigade 270's volunteer team under the Eastern party committee at Daksong-Gia Nghia road.A stage from the South Central Highlands to the Southeaster region under Ho Chi Minh Trail was linked by 2 roads called D1 and D2 leading to D war zone, the Southern Central Bureau's headquarter. At last, the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail was opened to traffic. Soldiers opening the Ho Chi Minh trail became heroes. Soldiers joining in the road opening campaign were selected closely. From the Southern troops going to the North, only 25 soldiers were chosen for the campaign with criteria such as joining in the anti-French battlefields, knowing how to mobilize the public and being especially bachelors. The young road openers had a common trust in the country's liberation. Special attention of the Party and State  Trucks on Ho Chi Minh Trail.The young road openers enjoyed encouragement from General Tran Nam Trung, State President Ton Duc Thang, vice Prime Minister Pham Hung, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Nguyen Chi Thanh and especially President Ho Chi Minh. In the South, Brigade C200 under the Southern Territorial Committee's 18 people, 8 of whom were from Binh Duong province and Brigade C270's 22 people were assigned to welcome road openers from the North. Legend of Ho Chi Minh Trail was started thenceforth. And, troops delivered weapons and supplies to the Southern battlefields. Despite millions of tons of bombs on Truong Son chain and thousands of tons of bombs in the North scattered by the US troops, the road openers still determined to open Ho Chi Minh Trail successfully, a legendary route in Vietnam.
