President Sang receives Russian representatives at APEC 20

President Truong Tan Sang met with the Russian President's Representative in the Far East Federal District, Victor Ishaev, and Primorie regional Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky on the sidelines of the APEC 20 on September 8 in Vladivostok, Russia.

At the meeting with Mr Ishaev, President Sang praised Russia’s thorough preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum 2012 and said he hopes that the summit will be successful and help promote development connectivity, as well as deal with the current difficulties APEC members are facing and elevate Russia’s status in the ongoing situation.

Regarding the outcome of the official visit to Russia two months ago, Mr Sang said both countries want to boost cooperation in various fields in the Far East – a region for which Russia has devised a long-term development policy through 2025.

The Vietnamese delegation’s visit to Vladivostok also aims to seek cooperation opportunities with Russian businesses.

At the Vietnam-Russia business roundtable discussion on September 7 with more than 200 businesses from both countries, those from the Far East showed particular interest and openness to future cooperation between the two nations, Mr Sang said.

He also proposed opening direct Vietnam-Far East air routes to facilitate trade exchanges.

Vietnam wants to invest directly or set up joint ventures to tap its strengths in fields such as mining, wood processing and agro-forestry and fishery products, and it is willing to welcome Russian businesses interested in investing in the country.

Mr Ishaev said Russia is seeking partners in the Asia-Pacific region and he agreed to open a direct air route between Vietnam and Vladivostok.

He also introduced prospects for bilateral cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production, wood processing and seafood production.

Mr Ishaev also said there will be no obstacles regarding taxation and labour as Russia is in the process of cutting taxes since it joined the WTO and the country will adopt exclusive mechanisms for Vietnam in special projects.

President Sang received Primorie regional Governor Miklushevsky, highlighting cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and the Primorie region, as well as the Far East as a whole.

He thanked the Primorie's administration and its people for helping the Vietnamese community living and studying in the region and for creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese Consulate General to operate efficiently.

Boosting regional cooperation with Vietnamese partners will contribute to developing the Primorie region and consolidating the friendship between Vietnam and Russia, said President Sang.
